Attendance Matters: How to Promote Positive Attendance Trends (Desert Star)

Attendance rates can dramatically impact a student's current and future success, and schools and parents must work together to minimize absences. In this session, participants will become familiar with what factors are most likely to impact school attendance rates, how they have evolved since the pandemic and explore a tired framework that supports positive attendance trends and promotes academic and social success.

  1. Describe why developing a strategy to support strong attendance rates is worth a school and family's commitment

  2. Articulate the most common factors affecting student attendance rates and how these have evolved during and post-pandemic

  3. Articulate a tiered approach to positive attendance support in schools and at home

  4. Access and learn to employ a series of tools for both prevention and response, as it pertains to chronic absenteeism

Dr. Chad Lanese, Acting Superintendent
Buckeye Elementary School District

Dr. Lanese has served in Arizona public schools for over twenty years as a teacher, assistant principal, elementary principal, and high school principal. As a district administrator, he was most recently the Executive Director of Student Services in the Buckeye Elementary School District, and is now serving as the district's Acting Superintendent. His has broad experience in the areas of instructional best practice, student services, and strategic leadership.
